Apollo Medical Systems, the leading supplier of Primary Care data extracts to the NHS and Private Sector in the UK, today announced that its patient communication system, AIR, is reducing the number of cancelled appointments and cutting costs at Carrick Hill Surgery in Belfast. AIR uses SMS technology to enhance communications with patients and helps surgeries cut down DNAs, which can cost GP practices the order of £9,000 per annum. In addition to AIR, Apollo’s proven solutions ethically extract data to provide valuable information for clinicians including GP practices, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Primary Care Trusts and the Department of Health.
Carrick Hill Surgery is a busy practice in Belfast with a branch site, Glen Road. The two surgeries run many clinics for chronic disease care, as well as a wide variety of other medical services. The practices use AIR to send text messages to multiple patients’ mobile phones, receive their responses and follow up with letter communication if no response is received.
Mrs Maria McAleese, Clinical Co-ordinator at Carrick Hill surgery says “AIR was very easy to install, as Apollo’s data extraction service is used within all GP surgeries in Northern Ireland (and around 85% in England). I use AIR to contact patients quickly and efficiently and to remind them of appointments. I have found this new method to be hugely successful and it is already saving us time and money, not least because postage costs are drastically reduced. Patients have been coming into consultations and singing AIR’s praises, as they really like being contacted by text message – I’m delighted that our enhanced patient communication is being recognised. I find AIR to be easy to use, cost efficient and it is making my working life a lot easier.”
